I made a mistake. I just configured a 2014 MKZ in blue with the black wheels. It looked really good, for me at least. Looks like a decent cruiser/daily driver, if anything.

The V6 with awd costs $40k without options... That's a lot of cash for what is, at heart, a fwd economy car.

I wouldn't call it an "economy" car... nor would I call the Fusion an "economy" car. Fiesta, yes. Fusion, no... that's a midsize family sedan.

Ehh for that much money I'd want something with a proper badge.

Well not luxury. And what about the hybrid?

Looks better in red, if you ask me.

Only major complaint I have is that you have to pay almost $200 extra to not have fake wood trim inside. That also limits you to the black interior only, because of course it does.

Well, if we think in that sense, then I guess we should call Escalades glorified Tahoes, or Acura TSXs as European Accords in disguise. Lincoln is, after all, just a luxury version of Ford. I can understand, though - there are other brands there that might match the $40k price better. And that's where buying used/lease comes into play.

Last year when this car came to the Minneapolis auto show I checked it out. The door handles jiggled like they were loose. All 4 of them. It's ugly and the build quality is poor. I was NOT impressed.

Um... but... Escalades are glorified Tahoes and Acura are glorified Hondas...

My biggest gripe is the fact that those 19-in painted wheels is part of a $4000 package.

What I'm simply saying is this - we all know what Lincolns are (luxury version of Fords), no point in complaining otherwise.

I'm with you on this one. 300hp awd Luxury-ish sedan for 40k is not that horrible when you think a fwd 1.6l loaded ecoboost fusion(which I have now and love) is in the low 30's an extra 8-10k for a Lincoln is not horrible. I mean the FWD acura TSX 4cyl is almost the same price.

At the risk of sounding like a brand apologist, the only reason this thing is not selling like hot cakes is that, in that price range, other more "prestigious" brands do become more viable. If a guy who has the money, but not necessarily a jalop, is cross-shopping this with a C-class (2014 C300 4Matic Luxury is on the same price range, with a couple of extra 3g's for the C350), he'd probably go with the German car.

I guess, personally, I just like how this thing looks. A test drive, however, can immediately dispel this.

I like it, but there is no way in hell would I ever buy a one new. Used? Yep. The exterior looks pretty unique, the interior is alright, but it really is under-par compared to everything else out there. I checked it out at a local car show and really liked it. But again, they NEED to do something about the interior, plastic and cheap.

Nope, not getting off that easy :P

Lincoln is the luxury brand of FoMoCo, not just Ford. The same way that Cadillac is the luxury brand of GM and not just Chevy.

We all know what happens when Caddy takes an existing car and simply rebadges/reskin it (Caterra, Cimarron, XLR to a lesser degree, etc.), the cars historically don't fare very well. We also know what happens when they make something great off an existing platform(CTS, ATS, etc.), the vehicles are praised by enthusiasts and journalists alike, and are widely accepted as what they are - good, competitive vehicles. They also sell pretty well(The Escalade and XTS are the exceptions, although they should't be).

Think of the MKZ as Lincoln's Caterra(read: rebadged/reskinned Fusion) what they need is an evolution into their own CTS. That's when you'll slowly start to see comments like "That's a lot of cash for what it is, at heart, a fwd economy car" cease. Lincoln knows they have a long road ahead of them, they've publicly stated it'll take 1o years before they're truly competitive.

Thing is, I would maybe even go for a used MKS equipped with Ecoboost, because well.... Ecoboost. Although I ended up with an SHO, the MKS was comparatively priced and I could have just as well ended up with that. I also test drove '10 and '11 MKZ's, they were nice, but didn't have the twin-turbo allure.

What about the hybrid? It's not small enough to be an "economy" car.

if it drives anything like the Fusion it should be an easy sell for lincoln with AWD it should be really "grounded to the ground". I personally like it a lot and 300hp in a 3600-ish car is great too.

I think they are damn nice vehicles...and I don't care who knows it! lol

I think if I were dropping 40k it would have a Cadillac badge or be on the new GMC Canyon, but the MKZ is nice!
